This had my attention right from the first sentence until the end. Wonderfully expressed, and I felt those lines of gratitude as if they were affirmations speaking to myself. Thank you Miche!
I looooved reading this beautifully, thoughtful reflection! Your infographic is powerful too! It's so rewarding to know about your love for learning and how you are taking different aspects from different courses and self-learnings to grow your process (e.g., Pencil Pirates, Justin Welsh copying/studying to understand how he thinks and writes to create your way of writing and distilling, and Write of Passage.) I also loved your linked list of past essays where you share your other lessons. What lovely resources from your lovely mind, Miche! :) :)
Love this, Miche, such a beautiful year-end reflection. I'm so intrigued by the writing practice of replicating another person's writing. We do this all the time with music (i.e. learning covers and standards), and it's honestly the best way to understand how/why a song works, and how it feels to have something like that come through you. I wonder why this isn't a bigger thing with writing. Maybe it is, and I just haven't come across it!
Either way, I'm loving seeing the evolution of your writing through WoP and beyond, and am excited to see what's next in 2024.
Thank you Rob. I didn’t realize musicians did this too. Once you do it, you start to regularly notice nuances while reading.
There was an opening to a book where it seemed the narrator didn’t like one of the characters, but she never explicitly said so. I wondered how it felt that way. Looking more closely I realized it was word choice. Jealousy came through without the author telling us. I’d like to incorporate more of that into my writing, but it’s usually my last step. I don’t always have time before publishing. If you end up trying it out, please tag me. I’d like to know how it went.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday. Merry Christmas!
Oh, Miche! I finally sat down to read this! So beautifully written and well phew- feel you on the mental health and medication resistance. Facing some of those struggles myself right now, and I appreciate your vulnerability sharing this! So glad WoP crossed our paths!
I love the idea of replicating blogs verbatim. Often at time, we get so stuck on how to begin. This is a wonderful way to start writing and learn what the author has to say. Thanks, Miche for sharing this valuable insight.

Thank you. I'm glad I came across the idea. I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it. If you ending up copying someone, please share.
